Positions for our 26-month Internship in Small Animals are available at the Small Animal Clinic of the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bern starting in May or June 2026!
Training Goals and Tasks
• Rotating SVK-recognized Internship for Small Animals
• Independent management of patients in the areas of emergency/intensive care, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, and anesthesia under the supervision of experienced specialists
• Independent performance and interpretation of diagnostic imaging procedures (X-rays)
• Participation in the clinical training of students from all years
• Regular, active participation in various internal training sessions of the specialty departments (Book Club, Journal Club, Seminars)
• Night, weekend, and holiday shifts
• Preparation of a scientific project aimed at obtaining a Dr. med. vet. or Specialty Internship in a department.
Requirements
• Completed veterinary medicine degree with diploma (Switzerland) or a diploma recognized by the BAG; ideally, you are a newly graduated veterinarian
• You enjoy working in a large, international team
• You have good communication skills and remain calm even in stressful situations
• You are motivated to work independently and responsibly and have an interest in learning new things
• You have very good knowledge of the German and French languages (written and spoken)
• You have an interest in scientific work

We Offer
The Small Animal Clinic Bern, part of the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern, offers a modern and friendly working environment that focuses on both clinical excellence and academic development. The focus is on comprehensive care for small animals, where both outpatient and inpatient treatments are carried out according to the latest veterinary medical findings.
Our interns are heavily involved in clinical work, which constitutes a large part of their activities. This work includes not only direct patient care but also collaboration with residents, other interns, and students, contributing to continuous professional development.
