We are looking for a motivated person for the role of Senior Cloud Data Engineer at our Zurich location. You have a flair for data and AI and experience in implementing complex distributed data platforms and applications to process heterogeneous and large data volumes. Ideally, you bring experience in analytics technologies such as SQL, DBT, Spark, Python, and various databases and are also familiar with cloud infrastructure (Databricks, Azure, Microsoft Fabric, AWS). Your deployment may be distributed across several projects and subprojects depending on the project situation.
An important part of our work is the modernization of existing, customer-specific data platforms. For this, you need the willingness to familiarize yourself with historically grown environments if necessary.
Your tasks
As a Senior Cloud Data Engineer, you work in several teams including data engineers, architects, and scientists to build and operate modern data analytics platforms.
- You participate in one or more cloud data platform projects and independently implement hands-on, high-quality data pipelines and cloud data infrastructures. (Project changes and priority changes are part of this.)
- You are co-responsible for the design, code, and configuration of components that manage data ingestion, real-time streaming, batch processing, data extraction, and transformation across multiple data sources and applications
- You ensure that your solutions meet customer requirements regarding functionality, performance, availability, scalability, security, and reliability
- You coordinate requirements and technical dependencies with the customer and maintain constructive collaboration with stakeholders on the customer side (business, IT, providers)
- You identify bottlenecks, risks, and dependencies early and proactively develop actionable solution options that you transparently coordinate with customers and the team
- You support presales and offer processes with data engineering relevant conceptual inputs, effort estimates, and technical contributions and can present the defined approach in German to IT decision-makers if necessary
- You work with business analysts and data scientists to understand and realize their use cases
- You share your experience within the team, help leverage synergies between projects, and contribute to the further development of our data engineering portfolio and reusable platform components
- You coach other team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and technical standards

Your profile
- University degree ETH/UNI/FH with several years of programming experience in Python, Java, or Scala
- At least 5 years of implementation skills with analytics technologies such as SQL, DBT, Spark, and Kafka
- At least 3 years of experience in providing and automating cloud solutions in Azure, AWS, Databricks, Kubernetes with Terraform or comparable tools
- Know-how in SQL and NoSQL databases, e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Databricks, or MS SQL. Server data warehouse and data mesh knowledge are also required
- Experience in data modeling and data governance and with the entire software development lifecycle: coding standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous integration/deployment, testing, and operation
- High willingness to learn and flexibility to familiarize yourself with customer-specific platforms
- Willingness to travel for customer appointments and occasional onsite assignments in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, depending on project needs
- Very good German and English skills in spoken and written form
