For our client, an international company based in Stein, we are looking for a Process Automation Engineer to support growth projects and ensure the successful delivery of automated systems.
The Process Automation Engineer plays a key role in the delivery of growth projects by bridging process expertise and engineering execution. Acting as the technical link between Manufacturing, MSAT, and Engineering, this role ensures automation strategies and system implementations accurately reflect intended process functionality for safe and compliant plant operation.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Requirement Gathering: Collaborate with Operations and MSAT teams to define automation needs, control philosophies, and system requirements based on process fundamentals.

Design Review: Assess P&IDs and 3D models alongside mechanical and process engineers to ensure equipment automation interfaces are embedded in the design phase.

Control Strategy Development: Develop detailed functional logic for the Distributed Control System (DCS), including control loops, process phases, and alarm management.

Recipe & Flowpath Design: Create cleaning (CIP/SIP) and production flowpaths, functional diagrams, and recipe structures, supporting MES integration where required.

Testing & Commissioning: Develop and refine FAT, SAT, and Operational Function Testing (OFT) strategies. Create dynamic testing matrices to map automation functions to process phases.+1

Operational Support: Support start-up and qualification activities, troubleshooting performance during water and engineering runs.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Interface with EI&C for hardware hardware interfaces and the CQV team to ensure seamless execution from design to start-up.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor or Master degree in Automation Engineering or Industrial Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering).

Experience: Proven experience in process automation within GMP-regulated industrial manufacturing. Experience with Drug Product and biopharmaceutical or chemical process industries is essential.

Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with DCS platforms, specifically Emerson DeltaV or Siemens PCS7. Proficiency in reading P&IDs and understanding recipe-based control strategies is required.

Industry Knowledge: Previous experience with Lonza processes and standards is highly appreciated.

Soft Skills: A strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail, process safety, and the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.

Languages: Fluent English is required; German is highly desirable.
