The Federal Institute of Metrology METAS is the reference institute for measurements and measuring instruments in Switzerland. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (e.g. when refuelling), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments and consultations for business, research and administration. Measurement accuracy creates trust, especially at societal and political levels, and is essential in many areas such as road traffic, electricity billing, time transmission or measurements in the environmental and health sectors. At METAS, various disciplines come together and complement each other – and this has been the case since 1862.

The Institute Council is the highest governing body of the institute and consists of 5 to 7 members. The members of the Institute Council are elected by the Federal Council and must disclose their interests.

You can contribute in this way

• Actively shape the strategic development of METAS
• Accompany and monitor the implementation of the Federal Council's strategic goals
• Help shape research, innovation and long-term strategic orientation
• Advise, support and supervise the management
• Contribute to effective corporate governance as well as to a sustainable risk, compliance management system and internal control system
• Participate in three ordinary Institute Council meetings per year

What makes you unique

• Solid experience as a member of a board of directors
• Several years of experience in strategic corporate management, preferably in industry or the start-up environment
• Networked thinking and the ability to bring in new and unconventional perspectives
• Comprehensive judgement in the areas of technology, innovation and artificial intelligence
• Very good knowledge of two official languages and good English skills
• Independence from functions or mandates that could lead to conflicts of interest with the tasks of the METAS Institute Council
