About the job
Retreat of the Goetheanum Leadership
At the first meeting of the Goetheanum staff, this year’s spokespersons of the Goetheanum leadership, Philipp Reubke and Justus Wittich, reported on the retreat of the Goetheanum leadership at the beginning of September in L’Aubier, the biodynamic farm and hotel in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
The upcoming congresses and conferences marking the 100th anniversary of the Christmas Conference 1923/24 were the focus of the discussions. The outlook was directed towards the next five to seven years, with steps only becoming concrete with and through the Goetheanum World Conference. The retreat emphasised that the Goetheanum wishes to offer itself as an open space for dialogue in times of polarisation and diminishing societal discourse. The term "experimental laboratory" is intended to encourage the invitation of intellectual and cultural diversity. Since the pandemic, there has been increased joint work among the sections in the form of books, research projects, as well as video and lecture series. The responsible parties want to expand this interdisciplinary collaboration of the sections. In 2024, anthroposophical social therapy will be established as an independent section: "Section for Curative Education and Inclusive Social Development" or "Section for Inclusive Social Development" is the field of work. With the twelfth section, the "Goetheanum Leadership" body will grow further, which will certainly change its dynamics and working methods, according to Justus Wittich. Another difficulty arises from the strained financial situation of the Goetheanum. The upcoming events, likely to be well attended—the Goetheanum World Conference, Christmas Conference, and the 100 Years Agricultural Course anniversary celebration next February—will, according to the treasurer, provide wind beneath the wings.
