Legal Auditor Alternative Penal System 80 - 100%What happens in crime dramas after the credits roll? Not every convicted person begins their sentence immediately in a correctional facility. In the Alternative Penal System, we examine whether a sentence can be served through community service or electronic monitoring – and oversee its implementation.
In the legal auditorate, you gain insight into sanction enforcement from day one and have the opportunity to quickly and independently apply the knowledge acquired during your studies in practice. You conduct interviews with convicted persons, participate in enforcement-related decisions, and gradually take on your own cases after thorough training.
Who we are
Justice Enforcement and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and employs around 1,400 women and men from diverse professions. JuWe primarily is responsible for the enforcement of court sentences and the execution of pre-trial detention. For JuWe employees, preventing recidivism and the successful social reintegration of offenders is of particular importance.
The Probation and Enforcement Services (BVD) are one of seven main departments of JuWe and are responsible for the enforcement of custodial sentences and court-ordered measures as well as probation assistance. They make an important contribution to crime prevention and the social integration of offenders.
The Alternative Penal System / EM Enforcement Unit (ASV/EM) is responsible for enforcement in the special forms of community service (GA) and electronic monitoring (EM). ASV/EM is also responsible for the implementation of electronic monitoring in criminal and criminal procedure law, juvenile criminal law, civil law, and internal security law.
For the ASV/EM department, we are seeking an engaged and communicative individual as a legal auditor (100%) from 01.11.2026 or by agreement (limited to 12 months).
Your area of responsibility
- After training, you independently manage cases related to serving fines and monetary penalties through community service and review applications for sentence enforcement in the special enforcement form
- You conduct suitability assessments with convicted persons in personal interviews and subsequently decide on admission to community service
- You independently make enforcement-related decisions, such as approval, conditions, or termination of the alternative penal system, and prepare the corresponding documents and orders
- You coordinate, plan, monitor, and support the implementation of community service, mediate suitable GA placement companies, and conduct site and reminder interviews
- You assist in the enforcement of sentences in the EM enforcement form and participate, for example, in discussions and installations of EM devices
- You collaborate with internal and external partners in an interdisciplinary environment
- You conduct research and legal analyses regarding sanction enforcement in various legal areas and data protection issues
- You take minutes at internal and external meetings or hearings of convicted persons
- You manage files independently and reliably and perform administrative tasks related to case management
Your profile
- Master’s degree in law from a Swiss university or university of applied sciences, initial relevant internship or professional experience (e.g., at a court or administrative authority) is an advantage
- Very good written and spoken German skills
- Good IT user skills
- Independent, proactive, and organised working style as well as resilience
- High social competence and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration
