About the job
Inspector Tobacco Products 80 - 100%The Cantonal Laboratory Zurich monitors compliance with the Food, Chemicals, and the new Tobacco Products Act in the canton area. The Tobacco Products Act includes, among others, classic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, snus, as well as herbal smoking products.
The "Tobacco Products Department" is responsible for the inspection of businesses, products, and advertising as well as for conducting test purchases of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. To strengthen this new department, we are looking for an inspector (80 – 100%) starting 01.01.2026 or by arrangement.
Your main tasks
- Independent execution of official inspections and sampling in businesses that manufacture or distribute tobacco products
- Writing inspection reports and, if necessary, ordering enforcement measures
- Checking tobacco products for legal compliance
- Preparation and follow-up of externally conducted test purchases, including drafting orders and criminal complaints
- Exchange and cooperation with internal and external testing authorities as well as other authorities
- Assessment of tobacco law matters
- We provide you with the professional equipment in a solid, part-time training with a focus on tobacco and food law. You will complete this with an exam and obtain the Federal Diploma for Official Food Control (DAL).
Your profile
- Completed vocational training and further education or specialized studies in a scientific field.
- Several years of professional experience
- Interest in tobacco products and related legal issues
- Competent demeanor in dealing with different contact persons
- High organizational, implementation, and resilience skills as well as personal responsibility
- Communication in impeccable German
- Driver's license category B
