After approximately one year of construction, the Tamins heat network is commencing operations and the first connected properties will be supplied from today with environmentally friendly heat for heating and hot water preparation.
The heat comes from the neighbouring Axpo Tegra in Domat/Ems, the largest wood chip power plant in Switzerland. Through the approximately 3.6-kilometre-long pipeline network, which passes under the A13 motorway, the heat generated there is transported to the rhiienergie operations building in Tamins. From the local district heating centre, the environmentally friendly heat finally reaches the connected customers.
"With the commissioning of the Tamins heat network, we are marking a significant milestone in our company history, but also for the municipality of Tamins," says Christian Capaul, Managing Director of rhiienergie, convinced. "In addition to our core competencies in energy supply, energy sales, and solar installations, we have for the first time independently invested in the heat sector with this project, thereby offering our customers a sustainable added value."
As the municipality emphasises, the heat network is also a pioneering step towards CO2-neutral energy supply for Tamins. The great interest and the numerous already signed connection contracts clearly demonstrate this.
For the cost-intensive project of 6.9 million Swiss francs, rhiienergie requested a guarantee from the municipality of Tamins. Although the corresponding application was rejected at the municipal assembly on 10 September 2024, the Tamins heat network customers can benefit from attractive prices.
Even after commissioning, the further expansion of the pipeline network in Tamins will be continuously advanced and additional properties will be connected on an ongoing basis.
