Internship in Social Services 80%Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders, the prevention of recidivism, and the detention and preparation of the departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.
The Bachtel Correctional Center (VZB) is one of the enforcement facilities of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of JuWe – and is an institution specialized in open enforcement of custodial and substitute custodial sentences. The VZB offers space for over 90 incarcerated persons.
For the social services of the VZB, we offer either two six-month internships starting in August and February 2026/2027 or a one-year internship starting in August 2026.
Your tasks
- Support in the socio-educational care of inmates within the special department for integration enforcement
- Independently conducting entry interviews and drafting enforcement plans
- Support in material assistance and contact mediation in the areas of work, housing, finances, and social assistance
- Preparing and reviewing applications for material and relationship leave and ensuring the leave process
- Administrative tasks such as general correspondence, file management, leave applications with program checks, applications for conditional releases with recommendations, and enforcement reports
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with enforcement facilities and external agencies such as the Psychiatric-Psychological Service (PPD), probation and enforcement authorities, courts, migration offices, and social welfare offices
- Participation in team meetings and projects
Your profile
- Interest in criminal law topics and willingness to engage with people in difficult situations and from diverse social and cultural backgrounds
- Stable and communicative personality
- High mental and physical resilience
- Initial administrative experience and pronounced organizational skills
