Job description
The Faculty of Social Sciences and its Gender Studies Institute are opening applications for a 100% Assistant Professor position including:
-teaching duties: Bachelor course "Gender and the social construction of bodies and sexualities"; 5 sessions of the Bachelor course "Inequalities of all kinds: histories, politics, society" and coordination of the pedagogical team for exams and assistant work; Master course in gender studies "Investigating gender studies: methods, theories and epistemologies"; Master course on a research topic to be defined; supervision of 5 Master theses; invigilation and marking of exams as well as student follow-up;
-contribution to the administrative activities and scientific projects of the Gender Studies Institute;
-conducting own research and publications in the field of specialisation.
Title and required skills
The ideal candidate must:
-hold a PhD in Social Sciences (gender studies, sociology, social sciences, or a related discipline) and have skills in qualitative methods (for first-year Master teaching); if the selected candidate is close to obtaining the doctoral degree (max. within 3 months from the date of appointment), they will be hired as an Assistant (class 8) until the doctoral degree is obtained;
-have research and teaching experience (seminars and courses) at university level, with a focus on sociology of sexualities and penal policies;
-have completed a doctoral or postdoctoral stay of at least one year at another Swiss or foreign university or be able to demonstrate active involvement in a national or international research network;
-be available to teach in other social science fields;
-have perfect command of French and a very good level of English.

Additional information
The candidate will be appointed for an initial period of three years; the appointment is renewable once for a period of three years. The position is funded by the Department of Public Instruction (DIP). The first year constitutes a probationary period during which the employment relationship may be terminated subject to the notice period. The maximum duration of the Assistant Professor position is six years.
The position will likely be refilled within the service.
