The Cantonal Library Vadiana collects, catalogs, and provides a wide range of printed and electronic media and information for the general, school, professional, cultural, and scientific education of the population. Located centrally in the cantonal capital, it operates the Main Post Library in conjunction with the City Library of St. Gallen, which caters to a broad audience and is set to be replaced by a new building in a few years. At its headquarters in the Museum Quarter, the special departments house the St. Gallen publications (Sangallensien), historical collections, and rare items. Additionally, the Cantonal Library promotes and supports other libraries in the canton of St. Gallen, managing the St. Gallen Library Network as a library association with around 30 libraries.
