As a R&D Control Platform Product Engineer, you will contribute significantly to the application development based on next generation ABB Power Electronic Controller (PEC) platform. The PEC platform for power electronics converters provides the building blocks for process control, communication interface and protection implementation for converter applications in mining, aluminum, chemical and railway industries.In this role, you will use your technical knowledge in supporting controller firmware and application development for Gearless Mill Drives (GMD) and High Power Rectifier (HPR) applications. Additionally, after the application development, you will take over the role of product responsible for the above-mentioned applications.

Your responsibilities

  • Being based in Untersiggenthal and leading close coordination between development and application teams in Untersiggenthal and Baden-Dättwil
  • Development support for ABB AC 800PEC product specific firmware using FPGA Framework & VHDL development tools
  • Application development support using MATLAB® / Simulink® & Real-Time Workshop
  • Building of test environments. In addition to that developing & executing test plans and test cases
  • Verification of developed firmware and application software according to specifications
  • PEC platform support and interface for HPR and GMD application engineers
  • Troubleshooting support for onsite and factory test environment fault cases.
  • Maintenance and continuous improvement of firmware based on feedback from field and factory tests
  • Function as third level support line

Your background

  • You have university degree (Bachelors / Masters) in electrical engineering or similar
  • You have 5+ years of experience in firmware & application development, testing and verification
  • Very good experience in FPGA (VHDL) and embedded real-time programming.
  • Good programming background in MATLAB/Simulink, C, C++
  • You enjoy implementing new ideas as well as independently analyzing and understanding existing complex software designs and proposing as well as implementing sustainable improvements
  • You are a true team player, at the same time, you are a structured person with strong self-management skills and excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of German and English
