PhD Student Characterization and correction of beam dynamics in SLS 2.0

For the Synchrotron Beam Dynamics group at PSI and the Laboratory for Particle Accelerator Physics at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne we are looking for a


Your tasks

  • You work on the new state-of-the-art SLS 2.0 storage ring, that incorporates an innovative low emittance lattice with outstanding properties and participate in the beam commissioning of SLS 2.0
  • Develop new methods to characterize, correct and control both linear and nonlinear beam optics. Test methods in both simulation and experiment
  • Write scientific papers and reports, and present findings at international conferences and workshops
  • Attend graduate school and take on teaching responsibilities at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne

Your profile

  • Master degree in Physics, Computer Science or Mathematics
  • You have a very good command of written and spoken English
  • Good programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C++, or comparable mathematics-oriented programming language
  • Preexisting knowledge of accelerator physics and experience with beam dynamics codes (Accelerator Toolbox, Elegant, Tracy, MAD-X, etc.) is an advantage
