The Position

Group Communications (GC) is responsible for creating a lasting positive image of Roche and are representing the company's voice on a Group level: We communicate Roche’s strategy and how we deliver on our purpose of “Doing now what patients need next” to Roche colleagues and external audiences. We drive integrated and global campaigns and provide platforms for communications business partners as well as our affiliates to engage with audiences. We contribute to building trust of key stakeholders, to managing Roche’s brand and reputation and to building a favourable environment for our business. The position

As part of the Executive Communications team, the Senior Executive Communicator will serve as a trusted partner and strategic communications expert for Roche’s most senior leaders and be a master storyteller with “editor in chief” qualities. Working collaboratively with other members of the Executive Communications and Global Media Relations team as well as Business Partners across Internal Engagement, Pharma, Diagnostics and Corporate Communications, and Digital, the Senior Executive Communicator will develop speeches, messaging, presentations and integrated communications to amplify the voices of leaders and reinforce our mission at Roche.

The ideal candidate understands and embodies the strategic value of communications as an advisor to the business, is experienced in working directly with executive leaders and their teams, and has the ability to craft enterprise-wide narratives that reflect our passion for innovation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of executive narratives, aligned to the Leadership Team’s business and cultural priorities, consistent with the corporate brand, and within the context of our evolving industry.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Executive Communications team, Business Partners and Centers of Excellence to create communications and engaging experiences including executive gatherings, all-employee meetings and messages, digital/video storytelling, and external global events.

  • Act as a strategic partner to the senior leader and other key executives to plan and prepare effective, thoughtful and engaging internal and external communications that educate, inform, and inspire internal and external audiences.

  • Draft talking points, presentations, scripts and other internally and externally-facing commentary for verbal delivery by executives.

  • Review and edits essential internal communications prior to dissemination to ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness. Ensures a “corporate voice” permeates messaging to employees and stakeholders.

  • May assist with the development and implementation of new and existing communication vehicles. Works independently within guidelines and policies, and minimal guidance.

  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provides functional guidance.

Experience:

  • Corporate/public affairs experience preferably in the biotech/pharmaceutical sector

  • Exceptional writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to comfortably engage with all levels of the organisation and influence senior leadership

  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and oversee several projects simultaneously

  • Cross-functional project management, including managing external agencies and budgets

  • Extensive experience in managing issues and crisis communications preferred

  • Strong executive presence and significant experience effectively working alongside C-Suite executives

  • Strong comprehension of effective executive communications, employee engagement, channels and event management preferred

  • Digital and social media expertise, in particular, leading thought leadership programs on LinkedIn

Furthermore, you have a Bachelor’s degree in PR, English, Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or an advanced degree with 8 years of equivalent work experience. Biotech or pharma experience is preferred and strong English is essential. Knowledge of another European language an advantage.

Primary location is Basel. Additional locations can be considered at hiring manager's discretion.
