Tech4Dev is an International Cooperation Acceleration Program for Research and Innovation aimed at contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by transferring science-based technology into sustainable solutions, answering populations' needs living in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

The program promotes cross-sector collaboration between NGOs, scientific communities (from EPFL and other Universities) and local stakeholders with the support of Governments and international Organizations (IO). Each partnership is initiated, financed, and supported by Tech4Dev to progress in their journey.

To date, a total of 8 projects, received the Tech4Dev Grant. This implies the participation of 7 EPFL Labs, 29 researchers, 15 NGOs and local partners in Kenya, Cameroun, Nepal, South Sudan, Bangladesh, Mozambique, and Colombia.

The new edition (2024-2027) currently focuses on 3 specific topics: healthcare, climate change, and clean energy challenges.

Our program is structured into four distinct phases. Different grants will be awarded to the selected projects according to the phases: Recognition, Exploration, Prototyping and Pilot.

Job Duties

Reporting to the Tech4dev Program Manager, your mission will be to participate in the launching of the new program edition, as well as manage the project portfolio following the new strategy defined.

With the support of the Tech4Dev team, you will participate in:

• Engaging with NGOs, researchers, and local stakeholders (Phase I: Recognition) (25%)
• Managing projects portfolio in their journey (Phase II Exploration + III prototyping + IV Pilot) (70%)
• Promoting the new edition, managing our partners, and building the ecosystem (5%)

Engaging NGOs, researchers, and local stakeholders in the program (25%)

• Engage new NGOs in the program and identify/qualify their innovation challenges
• Teams' creation: Engage the scientific community in solving these challenges through our program acceleration

Managing the portfolio of the projects (70%)

• Supporting every project from the onset and throughout all phases: Recognition (I), Exploration (II), Prototyping (III), Pilot (IV)
• Define and monitor project objectives, deadlines, and budgets, ensuring transparent and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. o Project de-risking and acceleration by analyzing priorities and risks (addressing IP questions, operational budget requests, partnership monitoring, matchmaking between projects and required expertise, business modeling etc.)
• Promote project results and their sustainability potential, encourage partnerships and technology transfers.
• Identify financing opportunities when needed to achieve project sustainability, and support teams in preparing the required documentation
• Develop evaluation, tracking, and reporting tools and measurements
• Assist with writing reports capturing lessons learned and insights from cohorts

Promoting the new edition of the Tech4Dev program (5%)

• Punctual support to the marketing and communication strategy (communication media, website, print and digital content, emailing, internal and external events, community management, etc.)
• Punctual support for implementation of the strategy

Experience & skills

• Double degree in science (Master or Doctorate) and entrepreneurship, demonstrating solid scientific expertise and an in-depth understanding of entrepreneurial processes.
• You have 3-5 of progressively responsible experience
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
• Expertise in project management methodology and techniques
• Demonstrated track record of performance using field research, data analysis, human-centered design, and project management skills
• You are an entrepreneurial mindset and can achieve goals in a fast-paced environment: problem-solving, proactive, and managing uncertainty.
• True passion for entrepreneurship, scientific innovation, and impact topics
• You are familiar with the Research academia sector.
• Ideally, you have experience in International Cooperation.
• Exceptionnel attention to détails, excellent communication skills
• Proficiency in English and French.
