PhD in Nanoscale Characterization of Perovskite Solar Cells | ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften

PhD in Nanoscale Characterization of Perovskite Solar Cells

You like to contribute to cutting-edge solar cell research by unravelling processes happening on the nanoscale? Then have a look at this project!

School: School of Engineering

Starting date: 1st of September or by agreement

Your PhD work is embedded into a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Topic of this project is to characterize perovskite semiconductor devices on the nanoscale using atomic force microscopy. The goal is to clearly relate nanoscale observations to device performance. You would focus on experimental aspects and work closely together with another PhD student concentrating on modeling.

Potential tasks are:

  • Optoelectronic and spectroscopic characterization on the device and nanoscale
  • Developing AFM-based characterization techniques on perovskite samples
  • Fabrication of films and devices
  • Identifying and formulating open research questions
  • Presenting and publishing your research results
  • You have an excellent Master degree in physics, materials science, or electrical engineering, or similar
  • You have a solid background in semiconductor physics
  • Ideally, in your Master thesis or a research project, you gained already experience on nanoscale characterization of semiconductors by using for instance electrical AFM modes
  • You are committed to research with a high intrinsic motivation for pursueing a PhD
  • You enjoy working in a team but at the same time like carrying out tasks independently
  • You have good communication and English language skills

Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW is one of Switzerland's largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, with over 14'000 students and 3'400 faculty and staff.

In the Organic Electronics and Photovoltaics research group at the Institute of Computational Physics (ICP) we investigate the physics of solar cells and further optoelectronic devices using innovative characterization and modelling approaches. We perform cutting-edge fundamental and applied research in a young team of motivated scientists.

ZHAW is committed to gender-mixed and diverse teams in order to promote equality, diversity and innovation.
