Neuenegg, June 18, 2020 – For 118 years, the chimney has stood dominantly on the Wander site in Neuenegg. Now it is being demolished. Its removal makes way for a more sustainable energy supply. By switching to liquefied gas, Wander AG will be able to reduce its CO2 emissions by around 24 percent.
The impressive chimney on the Wander site rises 56 meters high. It has been part of the Neuenegg landscape for 118 years – and part of Wander AG. However, since 2011 the chimney has not been in use. Its function was taken over by a smaller steel chimney, and consequently the tall chimney stood unused. It now shows severe erosion damage, moisture has taken its toll over the years, and it began to crumble both inside and outside. These safety deficiencies prompted Wander to decide to demolish the chimney.
The chimney makes way for a more sustainable energy supply with liquefied gas
The 118-year-old tall chimney is making room for an energy supply with liquefied gas. "By replacing our previous energy supply with heating oil with liquefied gas, we can reduce our CO2 emissions by around 24 percent," explains Arnold Furtwaengler, CEO of Wander AG. "Restoring the chimney would be very costly, and we much prefer to invest that amount in a more sustainable energy solution," Furtwaengler continues.
The demolition of the chimney on the Wander site will take place on June 18 at 2:15 p.m.
