What you can look forward to.
You will undertake a varied, paid 14-month full-time training. The theoretical training takes place in Olten or Zurich Altstetten and you will gain your first practical experience at a regionally assigned shunting yard. After training, part-time work is possible. You see irregular working hours and shift work as an advantage to enjoy your free time while others work. Night and weekend work is additionally compensated, e.g. with an hourly wage supplement of 16 francs for Sunday work. For night shifts, you receive time bonuses of 10 to 30%, which gives you more free time. Benefits such as a free GA travelcard, discounted travel abroad – also for the family – can be found on our website under Benefits and more information about the profession can be found here .
What you will achieve.
- As a train driver category B100 Cargo, you operate regionally at speeds up to 100 km/h and deliver and collect freight wagons to and from customers. In doing so, you make an important economic contribution.
- You take the lead of the train and are responsible for the safety and punctuality of freight trains on the heavily used rail network.
- Your high degree of independence helps you to deliver construction sites on time with the required materials.
- You manage complex shunting movements, act independently, record commercial and operational data in digital systems and ensure customer contact.
What you bring with you.
- For this demanding work, you are conscientious, reliable, a team player and willing to work in a 24-hour shift system.
- You are physically and mentally resilient and can act consciously and correctly with your responsible working style.
- You have at least a recognised two-year vocational training including a certificate of competence, ideally a basic craft education, or have completed the Matura.
- You are proficient in the language of the training location both orally and in writing (level B2).
- You have perfect colour vision (no red/green colour blindness).
- During the application process, we will require a current criminal record extract (not older than 3 months). The document can be ordered when invited for a personal interview.
Your salary and benefits.
The classification during the two-year training is based on the function and age. More about the specific salary for this role can be found under Lateral Entry .
