Head Nurse of the Spinal Surgery Care Unit

Within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DNC), the Spinal Surgery Service is seeking a Head Nurse of the Care Unit at 80%-100% from 1 January 2027.

Context

The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DNC) brings together the Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation Services, the Leenaards Memory Centre, the Neuroscience Research Centre, as well as the Spinal Surgery Service. It offers integrated and personalised care to patients suffering from diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, from brain to muscle.

Within the DNC, the CHUV Spinal Surgery Service, led by Prof Dominique Rothenfluh, combines the spinal activities of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Service (OTR) and the Neurosurgery Service (NCH). It offers specialised consultations and manages the full range of adult spinal pathologies such as certain degenerative diseases, spinal trauma, spinal tumours, etc.

Mission

• You ensure efficient and safe patient care
• You lead the Care Unit team effectively and responsibly
• You actively participate in the management of the Service in collaboration with your hierarchy and interdisciplinary managers
• You organise and supervise training, teaching, and research activities related to care
• You ensure the link between your Unit and the service management.

Profile

• You hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent qualification (basic training required)
• Ideally, you have completed additional management training, such as the internal CHUV training "Introduction to Management for Frontline Managers" or a CAS in frontline management (or equivalent qualification)
• You have at least 5 years of expert clinical experience demonstrating solid professional practice
• You demonstrate strong leadership and are able to develop and promote a shared vision to unite and mobilise a team around common goals
• You master team supervision, ensure the smooth running of daily activities, and implement necessary measures to achieve expected results
• You know how to plan and organise work effectively, establish a structured activity plan over time, set priorities, and define objectives
• You are client-oriented, attentive to the needs of patients and partners, and committed to delivering quality services
• You have excellent interpersonal skills, foster a climate of trust, and communicate kindly, adapting your approach to your interlocutors
• You are proficient with the SOARIAN electronic patient record as well as the main computerised management tools and applications.

Depending on profile, the salary scale will be between level 10 and level 11.
