About the job
You are responsible for the overall technical architecture of the L&Z information system, with which the social insurance institutions calculate and pay pensions, supplementary benefits, premium reductions, and helplessness allowances – processes that are directly noticeable for hundreds of thousands of insured persons. The grown Java landscape is gradually being modernised: away from the rich client, away from nightly batch processing, towards decoupled, event-driven components.
You lead this development architecturally, manage the external suppliers professionally, and are responsible for integration with SAP. The position is being newly filled due to a retirement – with an overlapping handover by the previous incumbent.
What you will achieve
Responsibility for the overall technical architecture of the Benefits information system and its sub-applications
Further development of the target architecture and modernisation roadmap: decoupling, containerisation, transition from batch to event-driven processing
Design of systems for high availability and resilience (WebSphere cluster, Db2, IBM MQ)
Analysis of new professional requirements and development of viable solution concepts
Professional management of external suppliers and evaluation of their implementation against the agreed architecture
Making technical risks and debts visible – and representing the consequences to specialist departments and programme management
Architecture and design reviews, documenting architectural decisions, setting technical guardrails for security, compliance, and integration
Why you will succeed
Completed degree in computer science (FH, university, ETH) or comparable qualification
Several years of experience in an architectural role with responsibility for a system or platform
Thinking in distributed systems: consistency models, transaction boundaries, and error behaviour between components are familiar to you
Experience with messaging-based integration and its consequences for state management and restart
Experience with Java-based enterprise applications, middleware, and application server platforms
Experience in modernising grown system landscapes during ongoing operations
Experience in professional management of external suppliers
Ability to document technical decisions in a structured manner and to represent them against resistance
Very good German and good English skills
We offer
An architectural role with direct impact on socially relevant benefits
Full architectural responsibility for a business-critical system landscape – with careful handover by the previous incumbent
Modernisation projects with real scope for design instead of managing the status quo
Flexible working conditions and hybrid working (2 days on site)
Free smartphone with subscription, half-fare travelcard, attractive training opportunities
At least 25 days of holiday and a collegial, future-oriented working environment
