The Primary Care Medicine Service, attached to the Department of Community and Primary Care Medicine, provides outpatient care for adult patients under primary care medicine. This service also offers outpatient emergency medical services to the population. As part of the HUG’s general interest missions, it provides access to care for disadvantaged populations due to their age, social, economic, or legal status (asylum seekers, those refused entry, undocumented, prisoners), or their lifestyle habits; if necessary, the Primary Care Medicine Service also ensures continuity of their care.
The Patient Therapeutic Education Unit (PTEU) cares for people living with obesity or diabetes. As a reference centre of the HUG, the unit:
offers individualised weight loss programmes of varying durations, incorporating the different available treatments against obesity;
prescribes and supervises anti-obesity drug treatments and ensures long-term follow-up of people with obesity;
provides adapted and personalised therapeutic education to diabetic patients through specific and personalised programmes.
Thanks to its partnerships with various institutions and international organisations, it promotes an interdisciplinary approach to obesity and diabetes, while highlighting the expertise of the HUG and engaging it in actions with an international scope.
