The Justice Execution and Reintegration (JuWe) is responsible for the execution of sentences and measures as part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich, as well as for the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of people who have committed crimes, the prevention of recidivism, and the detention and preparation for the departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.

The Bachtel Correctional Center (VZB) is part of the correctional facilities of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of JuWe – and is an institution specialized in open execution of custodial and alternative custodial sentences. The VZB offers space for over 90 incarcerated individuals.

To strengthen the security center, we are looking for flexible personalities to start immediately or by agreement. Two positions are to be filled. One is temporary until March 2026, the other until April 2026.

Your tasks

• Responsibility for the safety of staff, inmates, and third parties; even in challenging situations, you keep a cool head
• Monitoring of locking systems (inside and outside) as well as operating the telephone exchange with overview and reliability
• Receiving visitors and conducting gift, effects, and X-ray checks
• Confidential care of inmates and visitors, including recognizing and managing crisis situations
• Close collaboration with internal and external entities such as the cantonal police, medical services, or fire department
• Careful completion of administrative tasks to support smooth operations
• Accompanying incarcerated individuals to external appointments

Your profile

• Completed training with federal certificate of competence, (specialized) maturity, vocational school certificate, or equivalent qualification; ideally complemented by several years of experience in a care-related function
• Professional handling of proximity and distance in contact with inmates; high social competence and pronounced assertiveness
• You are psychologically resilient and can reconcile changing working hours (shift, night, weekend, and holiday services) with your other commitments
• You can express yourself very well in writing and orally in German and have knowledge of other languages. You are proficient in using the MS Office suite
• You are at least 25 years old and have a clean record (no entries in the criminal record and debt collection register)
