What awaits you.
At SBB Cargo, you are at the heart of the Swiss economy. SBB Cargo transports 170,000 tonnes of goods every day, removing 15,000 heavy goods vehicle journeys from the roads and reducing the CO2 footprint by around 460,000 tonnes per year. An innovative working environment awaits you, where you move SBB Cargo with your colleagues and where you undergo varied and paid training in marshalling. You benefit from real development prospects as a shunting locomotive driver or Cargo locomotive driver. Training start dates are 1 January 2026 and 1 May 2026. We place great importance on offering attractive working conditions , even with irregular hours. With us, night and weekend work entitles you to additional pay (e.g. 16 francs per hour for Sunday work). Time surcharges between 10 and 30% are also granted for night work. This means you have more free time than employees who do not work nights or weekends.
What you can move.
- As a shunting specialist, you contribute to reliable and punctual service for our customers. You move, form and break down freight trains in marshalling yards and formation yards.
- You prepare trains for departure, conduct complex shunting movements with radio communication, and secure vehicles parked within the track area.
- Operating simple infrastructure installations such as points, barriers and access gates is part of your daily routine.
- Coupling and uncoupling locomotives and freight wagons, checking the technical condition of vehicles and loads, and assessing their suitability for operation.
- Ensuring the delivery and collection of wagons at customers and maintaining direct and regular communication with customers.
What you bring.
- You are attentive, show concentration and good physical endurance to successfully carry out this demanding task within a team working 24 hours a day. You are also willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- As all instructions and documentation are available electronically, you will quickly become familiar with digital tools.
- You have successfully completed initial training (at least a Federal VET Diploma or equivalent) and ideally have professional experience in crafts, logistics or a similar sector.
- You have a good command of French, both spoken and written (minimum level B2).
- Your colour vision is perfect (no protanomaly or deuteranomaly) and there are no entries in your criminal record or debt enforcement register.
