About the job
Are you still missing the specialist title in addiction disorders? In this clinic, you will acquire it where treatment truly begins after detoxification: As a senior consultant, you will shape a dual diagnosis programme with your own signature.
The journey from physical detox to the first real change lasts six weeks here. Detoxification takes two weeks, followed by four weeks of motivational therapy. During this time, patients engage intensively with their addiction in individual and group sessions. Most bring more than just addiction: trauma-related disorders, affective disorders, ADHD, or personality disorders are part of everyday life on this open ward.
The addiction area is a distinct clinical focus with a chief physician and senior physician. On the ward, you work closely with nursing staff, social work, and a dedicated psychology team. The focus extends beyond the ward to include three addiction outpatient clinics, a substitution centre, and day clinic services. This allows patients to continue treatment within the same network after discharge.
Work is based in the Basel region, with living perhaps soon in Basel. The city lies exactly where Switzerland, Germany, and France meet. You can travel to Alsace or southern Baden by tram. With around 40 museums, Art Basel in June, and a carnival that begins with the Morgestraich at four in the morning, Basel offers more culture than one might expect from a city of its size. On mild evenings, you can cross the Rhine on one of the old ferries powered only by the current.
