University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy
Start date: immediately or by arrangement (limited to 3 years)
Are you interested in neuroscientific and clinical questions? Do you want to contribute to a better understanding of the treatment of people with a history of suicide attempts?
We are looking for a PhD candidate for the longitudinal research project NePsyASSIP funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation titled "Influence of the Brief Therapy ASSIP on Neuropsychological Correlates and Psychological Process Factors." The study investigates the effectiveness of two brief therapeutic interventions – ASSIP and STAR – for people after a suicide attempt over a one-year period using a randomized design.
The multidisciplinary research group of PD Dr. phil. Anja Gysin and Prof. Dr. med. Kristina Adorjan at the University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Bern focuses on early detection and treatment of patients with suicidal experiences and behavior in adulthood. With a clinical focus, the NePsyASSIP project examines fundamental mechanisms in the treatment of people after a suicide attempt. We use a wide range of research methods, such as neuropsychological testing (Stroop, GoNoGo, etc.), clinical interviews/questionnaires, Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), and Motion Energy Analysis. A special focus is on the investigation of (neuro)psychological process factors as well as the fluctuation of suicidal experiences in daily life.
Your tasks
- You will take over the project coordination of a longitudinal research project
- You are responsible for recruiting patients from the UPD for study participation
- You plan and independently supervise data collection, especially neuropsychological testing (including Stroop, Go/No-Go, TMT), questionnaires, and diagnostic short interviews (Mini-DIPS)
- You conduct data management and maintain databases, especially REDCap and the Investigator Site File, in the NePsyASSIP project
- You prepare and analyze the collected data
- You perform administrative tasks within project management, e.g., coordinating appointments with patients, therapists, and nursing staff
- You continuously maintain and develop project overviews and project tools
- You publish research results and present them at scientific events
- You supervise research interns and master theses related to the project
- You obtain a PhD in Neuroscience at the Medical Faculty with support from the Graduate Health School (GHS)
- You write scientific texts and professional articles
- You participate in scientific congresses and conferences
Your profile
- You have a master's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field
- You bring a strong research interest and high motivation to coordinate and manage a research project
- You possess excellent German and English skills
- You are characterized by precise and independent working methods
- You have knowledge of empirical methods and statistics

- You bring very good competencies in project management and in managing complex processes
- You are a resilient, proactive personality with a high sense of responsibility
