Job Description
The EHS Manager is responsible for the operational and systematic EHS management at the site in Dübendorf (near Zurich), Switzerland. In this role, they ensure compliance with local and international EHS regulations while promoting a safety culture when working with electricity and chemicals. The EHS Manager works closely with the organisation and supports all employees in always treating safety as the top priority and ensuring safe and compliant operations. Furthermore, the EHS Manager is responsible for maintenance and refurbishment projects of buildings and infrastructure.
Main Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environment Management
Enforcement and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures. Investigation of incidents and accidents, conducting safety training.
Maintenance of safety and environmental management systems according to ISO standards.
Active participation in the EHS community of Veolia Water Technologies and competent representation of this community in Switzerland.
Monitoring of EHS key performance indicators (KPIs), providing necessary data for strategic sustainability management and reporting.
Adherence to the "Always Safe" principles, including compliance with occupational safety regulations, acting as a role model, and prioritising safety in work planning.
Safety Officer (SIBE) and Environmental Officer
Performing the role of Safety Officer (SIBE) and Environmental Officer within the QHSE organisation of Veolia Ozonia Switzerland AG. This includes galvanising, ozone laboratory, chemical application laboratory, and pilot trials. The role of SIBE is a legal requirement according to the EKAS guideline and requires regular refresher courses at SUVA based on recognised training.
Identifying risks and supporting hazard assessments. Assisting in planning, implementation, and monitoring regarding safety risks in all activities.
Building and Infrastructure Management
Management of the building and associated infrastructure (including furniture but excluding IT equipment), including:
Negotiations with the landlord
Planning, selection of service providers, and coordination of maintenance, renovation, repair, or refurbishment of the building or infrastructure
Maintenance of relevant documentation
Issuing instructions on the use, access, and behaviour concerning the building and infrastructure
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, chemistry, occupational safety and health, or a related field
Practical experience and solid knowledge in controlling hazardous energies and consistent application of LOTO standards in electrical, chemical, and gas systems
Familiarity with Swiss and EU-wide regulations on health protection, occupational safety, and environmental protection
EKAS-recognised training (KOPAS or safety specialist) or willingness to complete it, as well as readiness to regularly attend SUVA refresher courses
Fluent German and English skills
Experience with ISO management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001)
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving competence
Excellent communication skills and the ability and experience to build trust and engage employees at all levels
Experience in the water treatment industry is an advantage
