The Directorate of Digital Transformation and AI (DTN-AI) supports the digital transformation of the institution. It designs, manages and develops the HUG information system, playing a key role in the development of innovative digital products to enhance hospital performance and quality of care. Its actions aim notably to improve the patient journey before, during and after hospitalisation, optimise hospital flows and support healthcare professionals with suitable tools that reduce administrative burden. It also contributes to the development of clinical research and innovation, notably through the integration of artificial intelligence technologies, and participates in the prominence of HUG as a major player in digital health.

The Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) constitute the main hospital establishment in the canton of Geneva. They fulfil care, teaching and research missions, and are actively involved in the training of future professionals.

Within this framework, HUG offers a pre-HES internship in view of admission to the Bachelor in Computer Science and Communication Systems at HEPIA.

Job Description

As a computer science intern, you will join the Flows and Billing team within the Patient Record domain at the Applications Service of the Directorate of Digital Transformation and Augmented Intelligence. These applications are deployed within the hospital and must meet high standards of quality, performance, security and configurability.

In this context, you will participate in the design, development and evolution of a suite of microservices and interfaces as part of the "Centralisation of Billing Rules" project, allowing the modelling of all rules related to the Electronic Patient Record (EPR). You will familiarise yourself with the EPR and its various functionalities, as well as with the methodologies necessary to implement robust, scalable and reusable technical solutions, promoting shared development while meeting the hospital's specific needs. Supported by the team, you will learn and apply development, architecture and software quality standards.

As part of your objectives, you will centralise all EPR billing rules in a common tool.

You will remove all rules from third-party systems.

You will rationalise the associated maintenance and facilitate tariff catalogue changes.

You will enable super-users to model billing rules.

You will implement a dashboard to monitor service volumes.

Qualifications

You hold a gymnasium maturity certificate or an equivalent diploma, and you have an interest in information and communication systems. You wish to enter a Bachelor in Computer Science and Communication Systems and must complete a preliminary internship for admission to HEPIA.

No prior professional experience is required. This internship is aimed at someone eager to discover the IT sector in a professional environment to gain initial practical experience before starting higher education in computer science.

You know the fundamental principles of programming and have completed various personal or school projects using a common language (e.g. Python, C, Java). You are able to work independently to research and find the resources necessary to complete your projects.

You are motivated to familiarise yourself with professional methods and tools in order to develop new skills and consolidate your knowledge.

You demonstrate organisation, curiosity, good interpersonal skills and autonomy in problem-solving. You also show initiative and wish to apply your abilities in a technical and stimulating environment.
