For over 165 years, the Zurich Animal Protection has been passionately and expertly committed to the welfare of animals. We raise public awareness, rescue, care for and rehome animals in need, and actively advocate for better legal frameworks. As part of our strategic development, we are expanding our executive board and are looking for a strategically minded, operationally experienced, communicative and team-oriented individual.

Your Role

In this newly created key position, you will take overall responsibility for the Pets, Animal Shelter and Youth Work division. You will lead the specialists, strategically develop the three areas in collaboration with the executive board and the board of trustees, and ensure their successful operational implementation. At the same time, you will represent Zurich Animal Protection to the media, politics, authorities and partner organisations and actively contribute to the further development of the entire organisation.

Your Main Tasks

• Membership of the executive board and active participation in the management and development of Zurich Animal Protection, in collaboration with the association’s board.
• Strategic and operational leadership of the Pets, Animal Shelter and Youth Work areas
• Personnel management, promotion and development of directly subordinate managers
• Further development of specialist topics, campaigns and prevention work in the pet sector
• Strengthening the animal shelter in terms of animal welfare, infrastructure and rehoming
• Future-oriented design of youth animal protection and expansion of awareness-raising work
• Conceptualisation and management of animal protection and awareness campaigns in collaboration with Marketing & Communications
• Representation of Zurich Animal Protection to the media and maintenance of contacts with authorities, politics and partner organisations
• Responsibility for the budget and economic use of resources in the subordinate areas.

Your Profile

You have a higher education (university of applied sciences/university) or a comparable qualification as well as several years of leadership experience, ideally in an NGO. You bring sound knowledge in the pet and animal protection sector, experience in project and campaign work, and a good understanding of Swiss animal protection law. You are characterised by strong communication skills, media experience and political acumen, as well as pronounced organisational skills and strategic thinking.

You communicate confidently in German and have good English skills. Personally, you convince through integrity, teamwork, enjoyment in leading a committed team and a strong identification with the values of Zurich Animal Protection. You maintain a participative leadership style and promote personal responsibility, trust and an open feedback culture.
