Job description

The History and Citizenship Didactics Team (ÉDHICE) at the University of Geneva (UNIGE) studies the transmission of historical and political knowledge in schools and the public sphere. Its work intersects critical thinking, analysis of the past and present, as well as the formation of civic spirit. Its activities are structured around scientific research on history teaching, teacher training at FPSE and IUFE, and the production of freely accessible didactic resources. Its work notably examines socially sensitive issues, the history of migrations, and the challenges of memory transmission in schools.

As part of the development of this team, the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences is opening the position of

Assistant at 100%

in history didactics and citizenship education

The main tasks required of the successful candidate are as follows:

• Completion of a doctoral thesis in educational sciences with a theme defined within "History Didactics and Citizenship Education".
• Occasional support of the professor in the MASE history research seminar.
• Occasional replacement, in case of the professor's absence, for the courses "History Didactics, History Didactics Seminar", "History and Citizenship Didactics" and "History Didactics: Memory and Otherness".
• Participation in work and organisational meetings.
• Participation in external documentation work and data production (recordings, transcriptions, data processing and classification, etc.).
• Participation in analysis work with working groups and at the project level.

Title and required skills

Desired profile

Holder of a master’s degree in history didactics, educational sciences, or history, or an equivalent qualification. Skills in epistemology are desirable, as well as experience in teaching or training. Proven writing skills in French and fluency in English are expected.

Commitment to writing a thesis in the field of history didactics, linked to issues of the relationship between history teaching and critical education, through observations and/or experiments in classrooms.
