The Clinic for Children and Adolescents (UPKKJ) is part of UPK Basel, which fulfils the care mandate for the canton of Basel-Stadt in outpatient and inpatient care. The tasks of UPKKJ include, in addition to university research and teaching, psychiatric and psychological diagnostics as well as the treatment of mental disorders in children and adolescents, taking into account their family and social environment.
Multisystemic Therapy in Child Protection (MST) is a manualised, evidence-based therapeutic approach for families under stress with children whose development and well-being are at risk. During the 9-month MST treatment, a diagnostic assessment of the children and adolescents takes place and the strengths and problem areas of the families are recorded anamnestically. Taking into account the families' social environment, they are intensively supported in their home environment through behavioural therapeutic and systemic interventions.
Fundamental treatment goals are to strengthen parental educational and relationship skills, improve communication, problem-solving and emotion regulation abilities of all involved, reduce psychological stress of all family members and activate social resources.
