Job Description

Security is a major strategic issue for the University of Geneva (UNIGE), which must ensure the protection of its users, staff and property against all potential threats: acts of violence, theft, assaults, incivility, AMOK-type situations or attacks. These risks involve significant issues related to institutional responsibility, continuity of academic activities and the University’s reputation.

Within this framework, the Security Officer acts under the responsibility of the Head of Security and Safety and contributes to the operational implementation of the overall security system.

In the course of their duties, they will be responsible for:

• Assisting the Head of Security and Safety in the daily and operational management of the service.
• Ensuring the proper execution of intervention procedures and protocols.
• Contributing to risk analysis and the implementation of preventive measures.
• Participating in the technical and administrative management of access control and surveillance systems.

The post holder may be called upon to undertake other tasks depending on the service’s needs and will participate in the University’s security on-call duty. The tasks will be carried out in collaboration with the University of Geneva’s Building & Logistics Division as well as with the relevant services of the State of Geneva.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Basic training required:

• Technical CFC (e.g. in building trades, IT or commerce) or equivalent training
• Federal certificate as a professional security and surveillance agent (ASS) or police or equivalent training
• Training in fire fighting and first aid (including BLS-AED)

Desirable:

• Any advanced training in security, fire protection or adult education.

Professional experience:

• At least 5 years’ professional experience in a similar position, with personnel management responsibility
• Professional experience in the following areas: monitoring of technical installations and construction sites, surveillance and control of premises and persons, maintaining order at sports and cultural events, patrols and rounds in public establishments, alarm reception, interventions; training in the field of security
• Excellent knowledge of the topography of the Canton of Geneva, especially the city centre, as well as Geneva institutions
• Experience in crisis and/or environmental management, working under stress
