About the job
Full-Stack Software Developer with Physics Background 80-100% (m/f/d)
The research unit Avalanches and Prevention investigates the formation and dynamics of avalanches and other mass movements, develops and operates prevention and early warning systems for alpine natural hazards, and is responsible for avalanche warnings in the Swiss Alps. For the White Risk project, we are looking for a full-stack software developer for one year in the Avalanche Formation and Avalanche Dynamics group
Are you interested in applying physical processes in the snowpack and avalanche formation for practical applications? Support our team in further developing the White Risk platform. You will develop software for new applications in the learning modules as well as for the tour planning platform, represent physical processes in software, adapt existing models, and implement further developments.
You have experience as a full-stack software developer and a strong understanding of complex physical and mathematical relationships, which you can implement in software. You are proficient in object-oriented programming (including Python or TypeScript) and familiar with JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Next.js and Angular). You are experienced with Docker containers; working with source code management tools such as Git and issue trackers (e.g. YouTrack) is second nature to you. Additionally, you have solid mathematical and physical knowledge and are well versed in databases and data analysis. You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, work in a structured and independent manner, are innovative and motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team on practical solutions. Good communication skills as well as very good German and English language skills complete your profile.
