Whether innovating and implementing new technologies as a team, collaborating on the development of new devices, or strengthening important relationships with various global industries: our work is based on building trusting relationships that help everyone succeed. As a family-run company, we look beyond short-term goals and work to create a future-oriented vision for our employees, our customers, and the world in general.
We are looking for a Principal Expert Embedded Software (m/f/d) to complement our team and help shape the strategic and technical development of our embedded software platform. In this key role, you will make a significant contribution to the development of innovative and reliable software solutions for our measuring instruments.
The position is based at Endress+Hauser Flow, a competence centre for the development and manufacture of flow measurement technology. Together, we develop technologies that ensure precise and safe processes worldwide across numerous industries.
What is the role about?
Do you want to shape the technical direction of modern embedded software platforms? Are you passionate about transforming complex software architectures into robust real-time solutions? Would you like to share your knowledge and actively support the development of teams?
Then this role offers you the opportunity to bring your extensive experience into a central expert function and drive the next generation of our embedded software solutions together with interdisciplinary teams. The position is part of our development organisation and works closely with software developers, system architects, and other specialist departments.
What tasks will you take on?
You will:
- take on the functional and technical leadership in the context of our current and future software platforms.
- work together with the team to develop software concepts, embedded software designs, and architectural decisions for our platform.
- translate concepts into technical solutions, develop prototypes, and support implementation with modern embedded C++ on real-time operating systems.
- further develop technical foundations and best practices for robust, maintainable, and testable embedded software and anchor appropriate quality measures in the development process.
- continuously improve our software development processes, identify optimisation potentials, and implement sustainable improvements together with the involved teams.
- pass on knowledge, advise and coach colleagues, and promote collaboration across teams and departments.
What do we expect from you?
You:
- have a university degree (Uni/ETH/FH) in electrical engineering, technical computer science, software engineering, or a comparable field, as well as many years of practical experience in embedded software development.
- bring very good knowledge of modern embedded C++ and development for resource-constrained systems.
- have solid practical experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, as well as with concurrency, timing, and systematic debugging of hardware-near software.
- are proficient in the use of unit tests, static code analysis, and code coverage methods to ensure high software quality.
- ideally have experience in an industrial environment; knowledge of functional safety or metrology is an advantage.
- communicate confidently in German and English and impress with your strong team and communication skills.

We promote lifelong learning through diverse training and development opportunities, internal knowledge transfer, and e-learning.
We value a balanced work-life balance and offer flexible working hours as well as the possibility of mobile working.
