About the job
Summary
Role Objective:
We are looking for a Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologist (CPT) to support the Chemical & Analytical Development (CHAD) department within Global Technical R&D (TRD). In this role, you will manufacture intermediates and Drug Substances (DS) for clinical supply in early and late development phases. Manufacturing is carried out according to approved manufacturing instructions, SOPs, GMP, and HSE requirements, as well as applying established contamination control and cleanroom working practices. The product range includes various modalities such as synthetic oligonucleotides, peptides, classic organic active substances, and DS bioconjugates. Depending on the process, you will work in classified production areas up to Zone A, for example during open or particularly contamination-critical process steps for low-bioburden DS/bioconjugates. We offer you a dynamic, agile environment with varied projects, high personal responsibility, and development opportunities.
About the Role
Your responsibilities include the GMP-compliant, safe, and efficient execution of manufacturing processes as well as active support of a robust production operation:
- Preparation, setup, and process-appropriate provision of equipment, materials, consumables, and production documents.
- Independent operation of complex process equipment, systems, and process-specific special equipment according to PMPs, SOPs, and batch strategy.
- Execution of manufacturing steps for intermediates and DS, including low-bioburden and bioconjugate processes, complying with defined GMP, GSU, HSE, and cleanroom requirements.
- Working in classified production areas up to Zone A, including correct gowning, aseptic-oriented working methods, material transfer, disinfection, line clearance, and avoidance of microbial and particulate contamination.
- Ensuring disciplined working practices during open product handling, especially in contamination-critical process steps such as dispensing, filtration, filling/aliquoting, or other bioconjugate-relevant activities.
- Performing and documenting in-process controls, process observations, and other production-related controls according to specifications.
- Complete, timely, and GMP-compliant documentation of all relevant information in the batch record and associated systems.
- Dismantling, cleaning, disinfection, reassembly, and release preparation of process equipment, tools, and work areas after production.
- Carrying out waste disposal activities according to internal and external requirements, including air exhaust, wastewater, liquid, and solid waste concepts.
- Active contribution to orderliness, cleanliness, 5S, sustainable maintenance, and safe operation of production areas.
- Early detection, reporting, and support in handling equipment, process, documentation, or compliance deviations.
- Providing improvement and solution proposals to optimise processes, safety, quality, cleaning procedures, and equipment availability.
- Collaboration with Process Chemists, team coordination, QA, Engineering, HSE, Planning, Warehouse, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely and quality-compliant project execution.
- Support and professional guidance of less experienced employees in equipment operation, GMP documentation, cleanroom behaviour, process execution, and cleaning.
- Assuming defined special tasks according to responsibility lists, e.g., in process controls, training, shift support, equipment responsibility, or continuous improvement.
What you bring:
- Completed training in a technical, chemical, pharmaceutical, or related field (e.g., laboratory); ideally as a Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologist EFZ.
- Practical experience in chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing, preferably in GMP-regulated production facilities.
- Good knowledge of computerised control systems and understanding of GMP, GSU, HSE, and documentation requirements.
- Experience or willingness to qualify for cleanroom activities, including working in classified areas up to Zone A and applying low-contamination or aseptic-oriented working methods.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes of DS, ideally related to low-bioburden processes, bioconjugates, filtration, dispensing, filling/aliquoting processes, or single-use systems.
- Willingness to work in a 3-shift model and for extended periods in cleanroom clothing or full protective suits, including externally ventilated systems.
- Careful, reliable, and quality-conscious working style with a high sense of responsibility for patient safety, product protection, and compliance.
- Very good German language skills in spoken and written form as well as basic knowledge of English.
