Schaffhausen Hospitals KISIM Go-Live
In beautiful weather and very summery temperatures, KISIM was introduced on 26 June 2023 at 08:00 by means of a Big Bang at the Cantonal Hospital Schaffhausen including rehabilitation and transitional care, psychiatric centre and child psychiatric service.
The Go-Live went absolutely smoothly without any problems: most nurses, doctors and physicians worked with KISIM as if they already knew the application. But how did this successful Go-Live come about on this summery Monday morning?
Almost exactly two years ago, we started the KIS project at the Schaffhausen hospitals. It was already clear at the start of the project that a KISIM Go-Live was aimed for summer 2023. Everyone involved was also aware that this was a very ambitious project plan and a very labour-intensive time lay ahead of us. The project was divided into a detailed concept, implementation and introduction phase. One project goal was to introduce the KISIM standard in the Schaffhausen hospitals.
For the detailed concept phase, all workshops had to be conducted online in a very short time due to the pandemic. The detailed concept was submitted on time and approved by the hospital management. The development work for the various sub-projects started at the end of summer 2022 at CISTEC.
A total of around 800 person-days of development work were implemented. Parallel to the development work, the application managers and various professional groups were able to start the KISIM configuration and parameterisation work. These are very demanding and time-consuming on the customer side and must be very well coordinated with the status of the development work and internally within the hospital.
As soon as the KISIM developments were completed in spring 2023, the extensive integration tests began. At the same time, the specialist project managers prepared the training sessions. The sessions were recorded during the first training and are available on a learning platform for staff yet to be trained at any time.
In May and June, the final follow-up and preparatory work for the Go-Live took place: the entire project team and the development departments of CISTEC and also the Schaffhausen hospitals worked at full speed, everything was completed, final adjustments were made and 26 June 2023 was already at the door.
How were we able to achieve this goal?
CISTEC has a lot of experience in introducing KISIM in hospitals, but every project is a little different and new challenges have to be solved. On both the CISTEC and customer sides, the project teams were very committed and thanks to the very good cooperation and organisation, we were able to carry out the Go-Live successfully and smoothly!
During the Go-Live week, we were on site every day with about 10 CISTEC specialists. We had no technical problems or software bugs that would have hindered operations. The specialists were on the wards as "floorwalkers". They supported on site, solved problems or trained staff in the use of KISIM. It was very calm on most wards, no hectic, practically all staff were able to use the intuitively operable KISIM.
Some users had questions or process issues had to be clarified. This first week was very intense for the entire project team. On Friday, we were able to review the week with great satisfaction: we had all achieved something great and introduced KISIM flawlessly in the Schaffhausen hospitals!
The whole project and also the experiences I was able to gain in this project were unique. I am very proud of our CISTEC project team and the cooperation with the Schaffhausen hospitals.
Now we continue with the planning of stage 2. The collection of topics for the next project phase is currently underway. We will also successfully implement this stage as a team!
