The Institute of German Studies at the University of Bern combines philological basic research with cultural and media studies approaches. Focus areas include literary studies, linguistics, sociolinguistics, digital communication, as well as editorial philology and onomastics.
We are looking for a motivated and tech-savvy student assistant to support the IT department of the Institute of German Studies. The part-time position offers a practical opportunity to gain valuable experience in academic IT support – especially in a Mac-dominated work environment.
Your tasks
In cooperation with the IT manager, you will take on the following activities, among others:
- Receiving and processing standard inquiries, error reports, and support cases
- Assisting with troubleshooting on Mac workstations (occasionally also Windows PCs)
- Helping with delivery, installation, and functional testing of devices (e.g., printers, peripherals)
- Maintaining and managing the institute's website (CMS), user accounts, and role management
- Ordering software and managing licenses
- Learning and configuring network drives (NAS) and Office 365 OneDrive connections
Your profile
- Enrolled student at the University of Bern
- Good computer skills and interest in IT topics
- No prior IT knowledge required – willingness to learn counts!
- "Gamer" experience or a technical hobby is a plus
- Good communication skills in German and/or English
