The Central Animal Facility is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC), University of Bern (Switzerland). Its main function is to breed and house small rodents and rabbits and to provide the infrastructure for conducting animal experiments as part of the biomedical research program of the University of Bern. The 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace), the "Culture of Care" and compliance with guidelines and regulations are cornerstones of the EAC strategy. We are seeking from now on or by agreement a
Clinical Veterinarian for laboratory Animals.
Areas of responsibility
Clinical veterinary medicine
• Supply veterinary medical care independently
• Careful implementation of preventive medicine programs (routine health monitoring, import, quarantine, diagnostics)
• Participate in veterinary on-call schedule
Compliance
• Ensure regulatory compliance with university guidelines and Swiss regulations
• Develop, review, and revise clinical-related SOPs
• Support with the EAC veterinary pharmacy
• Audit veterinary medical records and other clinically related documents
• Serve as a rotating member in internal facility/programmatic evaluations
• Support with creating datasheet for GM animals and the distress monitoring
Scientific support
• Advice and support for researchers on clinical issues / animal models / breeding strategies
• Participate to the internal training to researchers and animal care staff Support researchers on animal administration database (PyRAT)
Requirements
• Degree in veterinary medicine eligible to work in Switzerland
• ECLAM / ACLAM board a desired plus
• At least 3 years of working experience in laboratory animal medicine required
• Practical experience in embryo / breeding techniques desired
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Initiative, goal oriented and excellent organizational skills, ambitious, stress resistant
• Fluent in English and/or German, other languages are a plus
