About the job
Head of Department Learning Processes + Support 80%We shape learning for the vocational education of tomorrow
The Vocational School for Retail and Pharmacy Zurich (BSDPZ) is a cantonal vocational school with around 1,900 learners and students as well as around 100 teachers and lecturers in initial vocational education and in the tertiary sector. We consistently develop our school further – with the aim of strengthening, enabling and effectively preparing learners and students for a complex professional and life world.
As of 1 September 2026, we are creating the new Department of Learning Processes + Support. For this, we are looking for a strong leadership, pedagogically profiled personality as
Head of Department Learning Processes + Support (80%)
This new role is part of the extended school management and takes on a central key role in the pedagogical control and further development of the BSDPZ.
In this role, you are responsible not only for individual offerings but also for the overall architecture of learning and support at our school. You shape learning as a meaningful and development-oriented process and create clear orientation as a prerequisite for independent learning.
You effectively and phase-appropriately accompany learners and teachers through learning and development processes. Through targeted orientation, adaptive support and systematic reflection, you gradually build self-organisation and strengthen self-efficacy as well as sustainable learning effectiveness. Support and promotion are central supportive pedagogical design instruments through which responsibility is assumed and development enabled.
You are a personality who does not manage the school but shapes it pedagogically. You think systemically and networked, act relationship-oriented and keep an overview even in complex development processes.
We do not offer you a classic department head function, but the opportunity to actively shape a central future role in vocational education.
Your task – systemically shaping and effectively accompanying learning
- You build up the Department of Learning Processes + Support, develop strategies, objectives and a multi-year plan together with the team leaders and sustainably develop the department as a school-wide competence centre for learning processes.
- You are responsible for the pedagogical control, quality assurance as well as conceptual and structural further development of all learning, support, promotion and assistance processes – from coaching and counselling formats to diagnostics to structured self-learning and reflection phases.
- You develop, coordinate and integrate school support structures (promotion offers, language support, counselling, school social work) into an effective, coherent overall system.
- You set binding quality standards for effective support, feedback, assessment and individual promotion and ensure their implementation and effectiveness.
- You lead the Department of Learning Processes + Support in terms of personnel, expertise and organisation, including recruitment, workload planning, personnel development, staff appraisal and leadership of team leaders.
- You organise and lead department meetings as well as development bodies and promote an open, learning- and feedback-oriented leadership culture.
- You bear the budget, financial and resource responsibility for the Department of Learning Processes + Support, including budget preparation, prioritisation of measures and responsible use of funds.
- You enable leaders and teachers to professionally implement new roles, learning settings and school standards.
- You develop and implement internal communication and positioning strategies to visibly anchor the department’s mission, impact and added value throughout the school.
- You actively participate in the school management and significantly shape the strategic further development of the BSDPZ.
Your profile – pedagogical leadership with foresight
- a university or university of applied sciences degree or an equivalent qualification,
- a recognised qualification as a vocational school teacher with a teaching mandate or eligibility for such,
- solid experience in vocational education and in pedagogical leadership as well as school management,
- proven competencies in teaching, school and quality development,
- experience in building, controlling or accompanying complex development projects,
- a clear pedagogical value understanding as well as an appreciative, transparent leadership style,
- a completed, EDK-recognised school management training or a master’s degree in school development.
Our offer – impact instead of routine
- great scope for design and action in a newly created key position,
- collaboration in a visionary and collegial school management team,
- a professional environment with high openness to pedagogical innovation,
- contemporary employment conditions according to cantonal guidelines (including teaching share),
- attractive workplace in a central location in the city of Zurich.
