The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and Management (SES) at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, is offering a position for an assistant professor at the Department of Communication and Media Sciences (DCM). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and research in the field of communication and media. Your tasks
- Deliver four hours of teaching per week, mainly within the Bachelor in Communication Sciences (French-speaking) and, if necessary, in the Master in Business Communication
- Supervise Bachelor and Master theses, as well as seminar papers
- Lead high-quality research projects, publish results, and work towards obtaining research funding
Desired profile
- Excellent doctoral thesis in communication or a closely related social sciences field, with a clear focus on the study of communication phenomena, media, and/or organisations and their strategic communication
- Interdisciplinary profiles combining Communication Sciences and another field are encouraged. The successful candidate must conduct research in communication and media (e.g., journalism, media uses and effects, political communication) and/or strategic communication of organisations. The candidate must also have proven skills in empirical social science methods (as opposed to critical or phenomenological approaches in humanities). Interdisciplinary profiles combining communication sciences and another field will also be considered. Candidates may have a research profile predominantly qualitative or quantitative, without requiring equivalent expertise in both approaches for research
- A basic knowledge of quantitative methods is expected to contribute to teaching, especially at Bachelor level. International research experience is an additional asset
- Fluency in French and very good command of English are expected. Good knowledge of German is considered an additional asset
