Animal Care Assistant 50%The Veterinary Office of the Canton of Zurich is committed to animal welfare and animal health. It contributes to ensuring the well-being of animals and the quality of animal-derived food products. It helps to prevent animal diseases by monitoring animal populations through laboratory tests and combating outbreaks of animal diseases. Furthermore, it creates the framework conditions for the safe handling of dogs by the public.
For the area of animal protection for pets within the animal care team, we are looking for an assistant (50%) for 6 months, starting immediately or by arrangement.
Tasks
You will work in an animal shelter in Zurich North. This shelter primarily cares for dogs, cats, rabbits, small mammals, birds, and reptiles that are temporarily under the care of the Veterinary Office. You will ensure the well-being of these animals through proper feeding and care and provide appropriate enrichment. In addition to direct animal care, other tasks related to animal care include administrative work on the computer, cleaning and disinfecting the accommodations, inventory management, and maintenance work at the site. You will also assist at the cantonal lost animal reporting centre, where you will check reports from the Swiss Animal Reporting Centre (STMZ) and initiate the necessary measures.
Profile
You are a qualified animal caretaker EFZ or hold the "FBA Animal Care" diploma and preferably have practical experience. You are flexible and accustomed to working in a structured and independent manner, as well as in a team, and to processing data using computers. You enjoy taking responsibility, and working in a small, well-coordinated team suits you. You are willing to work on weekends and public holidays.
