About the job
Administration
Chief Information Officer (CIO) of CHUV
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is seeking its Chief Information Officer (CIO) for a workload of 80-100%.
As a member of the CHUV Executive Committee, you play a strategic role in leading and accelerating the digital transformation of the institution. In this capacity, you ensure the performance, security, and evolution of the information system while supporting CHUV's strategic ambitions in care, teaching, research, and innovation.
In this key role, you lead an organisation of nearly 250 employees and steer the technological directions necessary for the development of the establishment.
You also contribute decisively to one of the most ambitious projects in the Vaud healthcare system: the implementation of a new electronic patient record environment based on the Epic solution. This cantonal digital programme, conducted in consortium with eleven other Vaud healthcare institutions, represents a total investment of approximately CHF 200 million.
This opportunity is aimed at a leader capable of uniting teams, developing strategic partnerships, and supporting CHUV in the digital challenges of tomorrow.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five university hospitals in Switzerland and enjoys a nationally and internationally recognised reputation. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), it holds a leading position in medical care, medical research, and education.
With more than 13,000 employees representing around one hundred nationalities and an operating budget of nearly two billion Swiss francs, CHUV is a major and indispensable player in the Vaud healthcare system. Its actions are guided by strong values: competence, empathy, creativity, responsibility, and transparency.
The CHUV Information Systems Department (DSI) is a crucial strategic lever serving the institutional mission. It develops, operates, and secures the infrastructures, applications, and digital services that provide professionals with efficient, reliable, and innovative IT tools to benefit patient care and hospital operations.
Mission
As a member of the CHUV Executive Committee, you define and implement the institution's information systems strategy. You ensure the alignment of digital priorities and investments with CHUV's strategic objectives.
Together with your teams, you guarantee the performance, availability, resilience, and security of the information system in a particularly demanding environment. You support the institution's digital transformation to sustainably back the missions of care, teaching, and research.
Leading a department of nearly 250 employees, you are specifically responsible for:
- ensuring operational excellence of IT services and continuing their maturity development
- steering strategic digital transformation programmes, particularly the deployment of the Epic electronic patient record within the cantonal programme
- strengthening cybersecurity, data governance, and digital risk management sustainably
- developing and managing the information systems master plan and CHUV's digital roadmap
- anticipating technological, organisational, and regulatory changes to inform the institution's strategic directions
- leading, developing, and mobilising the DSI teams by fostering talent management, skills development, and succession planning
- promoting a culture based on performance, innovation, collaboration, and service orientation
- ensuring rigorous management of resources, investments, and technological partnerships
- representing CHUV with governance bodies and cantonal, national, and inter-institutional collaboration networks.
Profile
To succeed in this role, you have proven experience in information systems management within complex environments and master the technological, organisational, and human challenges related to the transformation of large organisations.
You notably bring:
- a university degree at Master level or equivalent in computer science, engineering, management, or a related field
- additional training in management, governance, or business leadership
- more than 10 years of proven experience in information systems management roles within large or highly complex organisations
- a demonstrated track record in leading and supporting major transformation programmes
- significant experience managing large teams and substantial budgets
- strong skills in information systems governance, cybersecurity, risk management, and project portfolio management
- a clear strategic vision combined with a strong ability to unite, influence, and build consensus among multiple stakeholders
- developed political acumen, excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and a strong results orientation
- experience in healthcare or a highly regulated sector is a major asset
- excellent command of French and professional-level English; knowledge of German is an additional advantage.
Beyond your background, you are an inspiring personality capable of mobilising teams and embedding technological innovation in service of the institution's mission within a demanding human, clinical, and academic environment.
