Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The Main Department of Remand Prisons Zurich (UGZ) - one of seven main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for pre-trial and security detention. The Horgen prison offers 51 places and is managed as a department of the Limmattal prison.
To complement our team at Horgen prison, we are looking for a resilient, open-minded, and humorous personality from January 1, 2026, limited until May 31, 2032, or by agreement.
This is your area of responsibility
- You accompany, care for, and engage incarcerated persons within the daily structures from their entry to their release. In doing so, you take on different functions and actively contribute to reintegration
- As the first point of contact, you recognize the special challenges faced by incarcerated persons and offer them orientation and support in this difficult situation
- To ensure an orderly daily routine, you ensure compliance with and enforcement of our security and service regulations. In critical moments, you are able to recognize and professionally manage crisis situations
- As part of an interdisciplinary team, you also take on administrative tasks such as preparing reports and documenting events, as well as participating in meetings and team sessions
This is what you bring
- You approach people in a coercive context with a holistic perception and build professional social relationships with them. You understand how to consciously regulate closeness and distance to inmates and handle crisis situations carefully and proactively
- You bring great enthusiasm for your new work environment and actively participate in the development and design of detention conditions in pre-trial detention
- You are mentally resilient, and changing working hours (shift, night, weekend, and holiday duties) are compatible with your other commitments
- Since obtaining your federal certificate of competence, (specialized) Matura, specialized middle school diploma, or an equivalent qualification, you have gained several years of professional experience in your field – ideally in a comparable activity
- You express yourself well in German both in writing and orally and ideally have knowledge of other languages
- You are proficient with the MS Office suite
- You are at least 25 years old and have a clean record (i.e., no relevant entries in the criminal or debt registers)
This is what makes this position special
- You can look forward to a demanding, interesting, and varied activity as well as a reliable, supportive team
- After careful induction into this dynamic and extraordinary work environment, you can take advantage of various internal or external training opportunities – such as part-time training to become a specialist in correctional services with a federal certificate
- The workplace is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport
- JuWe offers attractive employment conditions according to cantonal guidelines
