With more than 13,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals are a reference institution at both national and international levels. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to discover the highlights of the year 2025 by clicking here .
The position is attached to the Operations Department . This department's mission is to ensure the stewardship and logistics necessary for the smooth running of all HUG services, in terms of catering, cleaning and disinfection of premises, and laundry hygiene. It also manages the sterilisation service, the biomedical and equipment service, as well as Cressy-Santé. More than 1,350 professionals carry out their duties daily with constant attention to quality, a sense of service, and environmental responsibility.
The Biomedical & Equipment Service, composed of 52 employees, is responsible for managing the medical equipment fleet of the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG). Its main functions are technological and regulatory monitoring, investment planning, prescription, acquisition, and maintenance of medical equipment. Furthermore, this service implements and monitors materiovigilance prescriptions (the head of service is the materiovigilance correspondent of HUG with SwissMedic).
You will be integrated into the biomedical and equipment service of HUG, within the Biomedical Engineering Sector (SIB), and supervised by excellent professionals.
This internship is part of the major construction project of the new children’s hospital which will be delivered in 2035. You will assist the biomedical engineer in charge of this project, in collaboration with technical referents, users, and suppliers. You will contribute to the technological watch process aimed at identifying new and/or innovative technical solutions, their benefits, and related constraints.
The main work and subject of the internship concern updating a complete hospital equipment plan according to the latest plans and room numbering, updating technical reservations and equipment installation constraints (according to standards and technological watch), as well as analysing the expected related loads (linked to equipment installation, connectivity, and maintenance). Additionally, an analysis and update of the current paediatric equipment fleet at HUG by units and categories (valuation, histogram, maintenance) will allow a projection of investment and transfer costs according to the project end calendar scenarios and identification of challenges.
You will be involved in preparing a preliminary bypass related to the project concerning radiological imaging (room sheets and plans; CT, MRI, X-ray imaging, anaesthesia, flows).
You will also have the opportunity to be concretely involved in several projects at different stages of progress or coordination.
Qualifications
You are currently pursuing a university degree in biomedical engineering (Master’s in progress or possibly Bachelor’s at the end of the course), preferably with knowledge of medical devices in the broad sense, as well as experience (internship or other) in the hospital or similar field.
You have advanced knowledge of standard office and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and are generally comfortable with IT tools. Knowledge of CMMS tools or equipment programmes is a plus.
You have a sense of rigour and organisation. You act methodically and efficiently and demonstrate communication and listening skills.
You know how to work in a team and are familiar with project management in the organisation of technical platforms and in the field of medical devices (and related regulations).
In addition to your collaborative spirit, you are autonomous and discreet and ensure smooth information flow.
You are comfortable with document management and entering technical information to feed the project database management tools.
