Job description

The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences is opening a 100% doctoral assistant position within the new SPÉ Lab team – Sociology of Educational Issues. Institutions, experiences and prevention, created this 2026 academic year.

The team develops a sociological approach to the modes of designation and management of educational problems: school violence, dropout, bullying, hate speech... It analyses the categories, norms, discourses and social relations involved in their designation, as well as the ways they are managed at different levels. Particular attention is paid to the experiences of children and young people, families and professionals, as well as the differentiated effects of the responses on their trajectories, practices and capacities for action. This perspective thus aims to jointly grasp the social construction of educational issues, the modalities of their institutional treatment and the experiences they produce, taking into account power relations, social inequalities and the local configurations in which they take shape.

The successful candidate commits to:
• Carry out a doctoral thesis in educational sciences, aligned with the scientific orientations of SPÉ Lab and including
an international, comparative or transnational dimension;
• Deliver teaching, notably in the sociology of education, supervise students’ work and contribute to
assessments;
• Participate in the scientific and collective activities of SPÉ Lab and the FPSE.

Required title and skills

• Master’s degree in educational sciences or an equivalent qualification allowing admission to doctoral studies in
educational sciences;
• Clear interest in the sociology of education and the study of educational issues;
• Thesis project aligned with the orientations of SPÉ Lab, notably around the designation of educational issues, their management, the experiences of actors and/or their prevention;
• Clearly identifiable international, comparative or transnational dimension in the project;
• Interest in comprehensive approaches and the use of mixed methods, combining
qualitative and quantitative approaches;
• Excellent command of French, both spoken and written, and a very good level of English.
