Our Data & Storage Platforms division with over 25 employees is responsible, in close collaboration with our stakeholders, for the further development and operation of the business-critical data and storage infrastructure. We rely on state-of-the-art technologies such as Oracle Exadata, PostgreSQL and MS SQL to ensure a reliable, innovative and scalable data and storage landscape.
In your role as a Platform Engineer specialising in PostgreSQL, you contribute to further developing, automating and ensuring the resilience and performance of our Postgres platform. You actively shape our Postgres services and consistently develop them towards a highly automated Database-as-a-Service platform.
Your tasks
- Responsible for engineering, operation and further development of our central PostgreSQL platform with a focus on Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server
- Analysing and optimising the existing PostgreSQL landscape in terms of performance, scalability, availability and security
- Designing and implementing automation solutions for provisioning, configuration, scaling, monitoring, backup and recovery
- Further developing the database platform using Infrastructure-as-Code and automation technologies such as Terraform in close collaboration with the responsible Azure teams
- Integrating database services into our API and automation landscape and co-designing our Database-as-a-Service services
- Implementing best practices for performance tuning, security, high availability, backup and disaster recovery
- Handling incidents and requests as part of operational activities and providing regular on-call support
Your profile
- Completed degree (university/FH/HF) in computer science or an equivalent qualification with relevant practical experience
- Several years of experience in engineering and operating PostgreSQL databases in larger and complex environments
- Sound knowledge of PostgreSQL regarding administration, performance tuning, security, backup & recovery, high availability and lifecycle management
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, especially with Flexible Server, is an advantage
- Proven experience in automating database and infrastructure solutions, for example with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong affinity for data and platform technologies as well as a good understanding of the requirements of internal stakeholders such as application development or data & analytics
- Very good German and good English skills (at least level B2)
