Cook 60 - %The Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders, the prevention of recidivism, and the detention and preparation of the departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.
The Bachtel Enforcement Centre (VZB) is one of the enforcement facilities of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of JuWe – and is an institution specialised in open enforcement of custodial and substitute custodial sentences. The VZB offers space for over 90 detainees.
We are looking for a motivated individual as a certified cook (EFZ) to start immediately or by arrangement. Look forward to a meaningful role in an extraordinary environment as well as attractive working conditions with a 60% workload spread over three full working days – without room hour.
What to expect
- You prepare fresh meals daily, regenerate dishes, and ensure timely distribution with high quality
- You arrange meals for external businesses and supervise the food distribution at the buffet
- You lead a group of detainees in the kitchen routine, support them in their work, and promote structured and respectful collaboration
- You plan daily workflows, use available resources purposefully, and respond flexibly to short-term changes
- You take care of food orders, manage the stock, and ensure economical use of food and materials
- You ensure compliance with hygiene, quality, and safety regulations (HACCP)
- You independently organise and supervise smaller internal events
- You maintain the required documentation and support smooth kitchen operations
What you bring
- Completed training as a certified cook (EFZ) or an equivalent qualification
- Good knowledge of food hygiene (HACCP); experience in communal catering is an advantage
- Interest in working with detainees, guiding them, and being a reliable contact person and role model
- You communicate clearly and appreciatively, approach conflicts solution-oriented, and contribute to respectful interaction
- You appreciate a varied work environment where flexibility, teamwork, and responsibility are required
- Minimum age 25 years and a clean record
