Job Description
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Geneva is advertising a position for an assistant professor with
conditional tenure track in Sinology (Modern and Contemporary China).
Workload: This is a full-time position involving teaching at bachelor, master and postgraduate levels dedicated to the study of modern and contemporary China, as well as supervision of master’s theses and doctoral dissertations.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop research at national and international levels in their field of specialisation and to secure external funding.
They will also be required to undertake administrative duties within the Department of East Asian Studies.
Subject to a positive evaluation, the position will be tenured as an associate or full professor after 6 years.
Desired Profile: Specialist in modern and contemporary China in one of the following fields: art history or visual culture, history of religions, social history, political history, cultural or literary history; the candidate will have excellent command of modern Chinese, both spoken and written. A very good knowledge of French is essential. An interest in regional dimensions (China’s relations with Japan and Korea) will be an asset, as will the candidate’s integration into international research networks and their experience in teaching and collaboration with other sectors (city services, etc.).
Required Qualifications and Skills
- PhD in Arts or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience in higher education teaching.
- High-quality publication record. Published or contracted monograph (thesis), publications in international journals.
