Job Description
The Department of Quantum Matter Physics in Switzerland is recruiting a scientist specialised in optical spectroscopy to strengthen the team of its optical platform.
Activity Rate: 100%
Position: Assistant Professor
Job Description
We are looking for a motivated collaborator with a doctorate in a scientific discipline with solid experience in optical spectroscopy and expertise in the design and modelling of optical systems. Postdoctoral research experience in optical spectroscopy, particularly Raman spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, and optical system design, is required. The position is structured around two complementary axes: academic research and applied research.
Academic Research
The holder collaborates with research groups of the Faculty of Science and supports them throughout the entire experimental chain, from the design and preparation of experiments to data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation, through to scientific valorisation and publication. They implement and develop advanced optical characterisation techniques, notably Raman spectroscopy and second harmonic generation, including under extreme temperature and pressure conditions. This activity requires in-depth expertise in optics, instrumentation, and experimentation, as well as a strong ability to solve complex scientific and technical problems.
The holder also ensures the maintenance, optimisation, and development of the optical platform’s equipment and contributes to the development of new experimental devices meeting the needs of fundamental research, particularly in solid-state physics. They are thus required to design and implement innovative instrumental solutions with a high degree of autonomy.
Applied Research and Innovation
The holder leads or participates in industrial mandates and applied research and innovation projects, relying on the equipment and expertise of the optical platform, in partnership with the LTA. They notably provide measurement services for external companies and laboratories, ensuring the relevance, reliability, and quality of the results.
An important aspect of the position concerns the development and valorisation of innovative technologies arising from research activities. The candidate must therefore have experience in technological development, particularly regarding intellectual property and patents, as well as knowledge in technology transfer and valorisation of research results.
Finally, the holder actively contributes to the development of projects and partnerships, notably by preparing funding applications and participating in seminars, conferences, round tables, meetings, technology fairs, and other events promoting university-industry collaborations.
Required Title and Skills
The candidate must hold a doctorate in a scientific discipline with solid experience in optical spectroscopy and expertise in the design and modelling of optical systems. They will have a high level of autonomy and the ability to consolidate information from different fields and techniques. The position thus requires a very high-level profile, combining scientific and technical expertise, mastery of optical instrumentation, capacity for innovation and technological development, autonomy in managing complex projects, and aptitude to unite academic and industrial stakeholders around projects with a strong scientific and technological component.
