Job description
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MOCEL) of the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva is seeking a full-time Senior Research and Teaching Assistant to join the laboratory of Prof. Emmanuel Levy. The research of this laboratory focuses on the study of the molecular organisation of cells, including protein structure and assemblies, their evolution, their interactions, the dynamics of their interaction networks, as well as their regulation.
The selected person will be tasked with contributing to the laboratory's academic research. The main duties include leading ambitious research projects, promoting the organisation of the laboratory, perpetuating existing know-how, and supervising and guiding new students.
As a scientific expert, we are looking for someone who:
Has proven expertise in large-scale computational analysis of protein structures (experimental and predicted) and omics data (proteomics, phosphoproteomics, transcriptomics)
Has a solid understanding of experimental methods associated with omics approaches and structural biology
Has in-depth knowledge of protein-protein interactions and their networks, including phosphorylation (e.g. kinase-substrate interactions), as well as methods to characterise them
Has a strong publication record
Is fully proficient in English
Has experience supervising students at Bachelor, Master and Doctorate levels.
Required qualifications and skills
The candidate must hold a doctorate in bioinformatics, molecular biology or a related field and have at least 5 years of research experience, academic or industrial, post-doctorate. Proven expertise in large-scale computational analysis of protein structures, both experimental (PDB) and predicted (AlphaFold), as well as omics data (proteomics, phosphoproteomics, transcriptomics) is essential. The candidate must also have a solid understanding of experimental methods associated with omics approaches and structural biology (e.g. mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy) to assess the quality and limitations of the data analysed. The position also requires in-depth knowledge of protein-protein interactions and their networks, including phosphorylation (kinase-substrate interactions), and methods to characterise them (affinity purification coupled with mass spectrometry, yeast two-hybrid, phosphoproteomics). Excellent programming skills for analysing large datasets, notably in Python or R, as well as machine learning methods, are expected. The candidate should have experience supervising students at Bachelor, Master and Doctorate levels, and must demonstrate strong communication skills in English and scientific writing. Finally, good organisational and communication skills, as well as autonomy, rigour and precision, are essential for this position.
