Ensure electricity flows in Switzerland

In this exciting role, you independently lead the development of functionalities in the field of systems and decision support for real-time operation and forecast planning of the transmission network. Your tasks will include:

• Developing the business architecture, decision support and automated decision-making for flow and voltage regulation in the electricity transmission system
• Developing applications for flow and voltage regulation (power flow calculation, security analysis, optimal power flow, specialised mathematical optimisation algorithms): conceptualisation, prototyping of network calculation and optimisation algorithms, preparation of technical specifications and conducting tests
• Functional support of applications, including on-call engineer service: error analysis, algorithm adjustment, user feedback analysis and model updates
• Project responsibility, application ownership and close collaboration with various specialists

Here is how you make a difference

We are looking for a highly motivated person with an autonomous and analytical working method for this versatile position. You also have the following skills:

• Engineering degree, for example in electrical engineering, energy sciences, automation, operations research or a similar field, openness to interdisciplinary activities and pragmatic problem-solving skills
• Experience in modelling, simulation and optimisation of electrical systems
• Experience using mathematical optimisation algorithms, as well as data processing and programming skills (Python or equivalent)
• Comfortable interacting with application users and stakeholders
• Very good knowledge of English; proficiency in German or French is an advantage

The Market business unit is Swissgrid’s operational centre. Experienced specialists are responsible for operating the transmission system and system services markets. They also manage congestion at Swiss borders and play an active role in developing the electricity market in Switzerland and Europe. At the heart of Swiss electricity supply, in Swissgrid’s control centre, several teams monitor and control electricity flows in the grid 24 hours a day.

Our System Decision Solutions team is responsible for developing and operating operational decision support applications, in close collaboration with internal IT.
